The Safety officer will assess employee jobs and their related risks. The safety officer
will work with the safety committee and the employer to develop safety policies. The
safety officer will implement the safety policies. Safety policies will cover all applicable
OSHA’s regulations.
The Safety Officer will:
1. Work with the employer and other employees to develop, implement and evaluate appropriate safety policies and practices.
2. Conduct quarterly safety meetings.
3. Revise and upgrade the manual and policies as needed.
4. Monitor the use of protective equipment and replace as needed.
5. Monitor use and disposal of chemicals used in facility.
6. See that appropriate safety audits and records are maintained.
7. Understand the regulations and keep current with new regulations.
8. Seek ways to improve the safety program.
The Safety Officer has overall responsibility to:
1. Ensure that workers know and follow the chemical and bio-safety policies.
2. Ensure that protective equipment is available and used.
3. Conduct regular safety and housekeeping inspections.
4. Provide safety training to new employees prior to their assuming job duties.
5. Ensure that annual safety training is presented to staff.
6. Provide additional training if safety policies are revised or changed between annual programs.
The employee is responsible for:
1. Planning and performing each procedure in accordance with the facilities bio-hazard safety policies and chemical safety policies.
2. Developing good personal safety habits.
3. Following Universal/ Standard precautions.
4. Using personal protective equipment according to OSHA regulations and the employer’s safety policies.
5. Using work practice and engineering controls.
6. Reporting unsafe conditions to the employer or safety officer.
7. Reporting all accidents or exposures to the employer or safety officer.
8. Attending annual safety training programs.
